Here’s one of my culinary highlights of 2024 - @aura.cardiff! After their launch night we were eager to visit for dinner, so we booked a table ahead of seeing Hamilton at @thecentre_yganolfan, the best night out for J’s birthday weekend.

What a meal. Only two courses, but we would’ve had three if we’d have had time - we ordered from the a la carte menu instead of the pre-theatre 🍴

We had:
❋ Steak tartare with a quail egg and sourdough crisps
❋ Duck parfait with plum chutney, cornichon and radish salad and brioche
❋ Creedy Carver duck breast with roasted celeriac and pistachio granola
❋ Welsh lamb rump with lamb pomme anna, heritage carrot and jus
❋ Roasted carrots with cumin, tahini and pomegranate

Beautiful evening, beautiful food! Thoroughly recommend visiting Aura, although I would struggle to order anything but the parfait and lamb 😅 also excited to try their bottomless brunches, as I loved the Culleys one! Definitely one for 2025 🥰

ad 🍹 PSA: all Christmas orders for @myxddrinks cocktail pouches need to be in by 9am tomorrow! If you’re stuck on what to buy *that* person again, may I suggest a box of these - we’ve been working our way through them over the past few nights and they are lovely!

This is my second time trying their drinks and have sent them as pressies a few times, they always go down well. MYXD make at-home cocktails super easy - most of the pouches don’t need any other ingredients. If you’re sorted for Christmas, maybe give these a go for new years, a yap sessions with the girls… or any excuse you can think of 👀

My recommendation? Order a few mango and chilli margs - my favourite! 🥭🌶️

ad 🔥 Sometimes you just need something quick for dinner - nothing too fancy, but something with flavour and quick to cook! When the @eatsides team got in touch asking me to try their frozen Sides range I wasn’t expecting too much, but I take it back 😅

Sides is a restaurant fast food chain from the @sidemen, and is their take on Nashville chicken! There isn’t one in Wales, so off to @thefoodwarehouseuk I went to sample the Sides frozen range (also available at @icelandfoods).

We tried:
❋ Sweet ‘n’ spicy chicken bites
❋ Nashville coated boneless chicken box
❋ Jalapeno and cheese stuffed hash brown nuggets
❋ Mini onion ring hash browns
❋ ‘Ultimate’ BBQ sauce
❋ Caramel gold ‘Best’ cereal

What a feast. Safe to say we didn’t finish it all in one sitting, but the chicken made the BEST caesar salad the next day! The Nashville and sweet ‘n’ spicy chicken bites were the stars of the show, and I’d expect them to be. The latter is hot - we didn’t even put all the chilli flakes in and it was edging toward my spice limit! I liked how it was customisable though - great shout. If you want to go hotter, you can as there are multiple heat levels available 🥵

Of the potato sides, J preferred the cheese jalapeno bites, and I preferred the onion ring hash browns. The BBQ sauce is lush - we’re still putting it with everything we can 😂 as for the cereal, I’m clearly not the target market... this is definitely designed with sugar-loving kids in mind but J thoroughly enjoyed it!

If you fancy giving your own chicken feast a go, you can get two mains and two sides for £12 in Iceland and Food Warehouse. Perfect for a wintery night in in front of the telly!

ad 🌿 @longacardiff should be your next dinner destination, and there are *so* many reasons why. J and I had one of our favourite meals of 2024 there last week, and the expectations were up there due to their acclaimed brunches on Whitchurch Road and at their new venue on Park Place.

Just opposite @newtheatrecdf on the ground floor of the Vita student accommodation, you’ll find a welcome escape into a Turkish courtyard - think limestone-adorned pillars, neutral tones and plants in every corner. Even though the weather was horrendous on both visits, the interior and welcome from Gizem, Pinar and team was as sunny as can be.

I digress - food! We tried:
❋ Harvest sour and cinnamon espresso martini cocktails
❋ Hot hummus with beef pastrami, cheddar and bread
❋ Cretan ezme - ezine cheese with pistachio, basil, olive oil and simit croutons
❋ Feraye - fried beef dumplings in a sundried tomato sauce and herbed yogurt
❋ ‘Ode to Home’ - freekeh pilav, lamb cheese kofte, lamb shank and keshkek, Sultan’s delight (slow cooked beef and smoked aubergine puree), dukkah chickpea hummus, truffle yogurt pasta, cacik, muhammara (red pepper dip) and isot aioli
❋ Baklava

If there are some dishes in there you’ve not heard of before, join the club. That’s part of the adventure - it was lovely chatting to Gizem and the front of house team about the inspiration and Turkish regions behind each dish, as the menu spans across a few. If you’re happy to dive in, order the ‘Ode to Home’ - this is based upon the Turkish tradition of sharing celebratory meals with your neighbours, whether you know them or not! The ‘Sultan’s delight’ portion of this was my favourite, and J favoured the lamb shank and keshkek. In addition, be sure to order the feraye - my highlight of the meal. There isn’t one thing I wouldn’t order again, which will prove difficult on my next visit when I’m bound to want to try more 😅

It’s a great deal - you can get 3 courses for £30 including a big platter of all their most popular starter options and mains such as Pad Thai and Beef Massaman Curry 🍛

Take that, bottomless prawn crackers and *actual* crackers and you’ve got yourself a good night. We visited the Cardiff restaurant on Church Street - I had no idea it was two floors!

Thanks for having us - will definitely bear Rosa’s in mind for a future get together... need more of that pad thai in my life 😅

ad 🫓 @tukinfoods are changing up the sandwich game by bringing curries and naans to the meal deal market! This time of year I often gravitate toward warming comfort foods, and these are just the thing. I tried three of their new ‘Curry in a Naans’ - the Kashmiri chilli chicken, Keralan chicken and cauliflower chaat masala, and two samosas (which were also lovely!)

We did ours in the air fryer to get them crispy, but the office microwave will also work wonders! If you fancy giving them a go, you’ll find them by the sandwiches in your local @tescofood, @coopuk, BP, @shell, Esso, @whsmithofficial, @onestopstoresuk, @discoverbudgens and @mylondis 🛒

In this hideous weather, hiding out at @longacardiff for a cosy brunch was a no brainer. Great food, great company and now an even greater location, as they’ve just opened on Park Place! And what a gorgeous venue it is 🤍

Longa are open every day bar Tuesday and are serving their much-loved Turkish brunches, alongside a new dinner menu which I plan to try soon. We had the Anatolian Turkish brunch for 2, with eggs and delicious beef sucuk as the centerpiece. Meals like this are my favourite - lots of little dishes to mix and match. My favourite elements were the main dish, the clotted cream and honey and the delicious cheeses!

I went for an oat flat white today, but there are also a range of brunch cocktails if that tickles your fancy. I need to try the flat white martini next time 👀 Congratulations to the lovely Longa team on their new premises, I look forward to many more visits in the future ☕️

Just some pics from a lush night out In Cardiff last week - classic @phorestaurant order for me… physically incapable of ordering anything other than the spring rolls (with peanut dip ofc) and curry 🤣 although I did try the dragonfruit and lime martini for the first time and it was gorgeous! Another staple for the list 👀 maybe one day I’ll actually try the phở!

After we headed to @flightclubdarts - they are fully decked out for Christmas, I need to pop back to have a look at the roof terrace because I’m sure it is stunning! 🎄

ad 🎄 it’s almost time to get the tree up, start wrapping and embrace hearing Mariah Carey everywhere you go… I’m not quite there yet, but trying the festive specials from @cobbles.co is getting me into the Christmas spirit big time!

First off we had the festive sandwich - it’s HUGE (but they all are at Cobbles!) 🥪 Pulled turkey, streaky bacon, sausage meat, tons of gooey brie, cranberry Christmas chutney, sage, crispy onions and rocket. Boom. A solid 8.5/10 from me - would’ve loved a little more chutney and a little less rocket but otherwise it was bloody gorgeous.

The underdog for me though was the tater tots!! These were delicious - that cheesy sauce on top was the one. Add loads of turkey, bacon, crispy onions, sage and cranberries and you are on to the ultimate comfort dish - I was gutted I had to share this 🤣 serious Christmas dinner vibes!

Go for the sandwiches as they always rock, but make sure you get the tots too!! 🤤

Head to Ogmore or @goodsheds in Barry, or get a delivery if you CBA to brave the cold 🥶 on the menu until 5 January!

Roasties is now open on Mackintosh Place (junction off of Albany Rd) and offers lots of roast meat options, noodles, speciality dishes, bao buns and epic baked goods from @awesome.kitchen. Meat was great - especially the char sui pork and the pork belly. Order the three roast with rice, salt and chilli chicken and the seaweed crisps for something different - we loved these.

Swing by for a takeaway or dine in - proper lush, honest food, can’t go wrong in my books.

ad 🌈 if there was ever a Six by Nico theme for me, this is it ✨ if you know me you’ll know my love of musicals, so the Land of Oz menu at @sixbynicocardiff is perfect - especially since Wicked is at @thecentre_yganolfan right now, and the movie is just around the corner!

This menu really captures the magic of walking that yellow brick road into the unknown - it was great to hear from Gareth about their inspiration behind each dish. My personal favourite dishes were the Scarecrow, Tin Woodman and Cowardly Lion, the Wicked Witch add on and the Emerald City (see the last pic for info). I loved the dessert (and the matching wine pairing), it was the perfect palate cleanser after a rich meal!

Fancy your own trip to Oz? This menu is live until 15 December - also keep your eyes peeled for the next few menus - they sound pretty exciting 👀

ad 🍸 had a beautiful evening at @the_cosyclub to celebrate their new menu - lots of winter warmers to try, and of course their lovely cocktails! Cardiff has a branch in the city centre too, but we headed down to @cosyclub_cardiffbay ⛵️

We tried:
❋ Tiramisu martini and Clover Club cocktails
❋ Burrata and smoked piquillo pesto (and bread and butter to dip)
❋ Traditional Iraqi laffa flatbread
❋ Tempura vegetables
❋ Slow-cooked ox cheek pasta ragu
❋ King prawn massaman curry
❋ Orange & Cointreau crème brûlée
❋ Rich chocolate delice

What a meal - this is hands down the best meal I’ve ever had at Cosy Club. The tempura vegetables with a smoky piquillo mayonnaise were my pick of the starters, but the burrata was also lush, not something I order often!

We were both chuffed with our mains, J’s prawn curry was filled with big prawns - not that you can see them in my pic, they were all hiding at the bottom 🤣 my ox cheek ragu was the perfect warming autumnal dish, would have been beautiful with a glass of red!

My dessert was also an unusual pick for me - I am rarely a chocolate dessert girl but I loved this. Rich but not heavy, perfect end to the meal.

I hadn’t been to Cosy Club for dinner in a long time (we are so blessed with options in Cardiff and down the bay) but that will be changing after this visit - loved it! Also shout out to the staff who were all so lovely ✨

ad 🕹️ this is my kind of date night! @nq64arcadebars has always been one of our favourite places to go for a cocktail and a few games, as a two or when friends come to stay. A cup of tokens and a Kirby makes me a happy girlie 😆

This time we had a new surprise, with their new MaiMai arcade game - huge fan. Think of a dance mat for your hands, it may look like a giant washing machine but it’s actually so much fun!! It’s very popular both in Japan and at NQ64 - had to keep an eye for when it was free!

Of course we played the old favourites, Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Hero, Pac-Man, MarioKart… you get the idea. There’s a new cocktail menu coming this Thursday 7 November so there’s no better time to head down and give it a go 🍹

Seven days left to catch this beaut of an art installation! ‘Under Neon Loneliness’ by @markjamesworks can be found in Central Square, in a big black shipping container - you can’t miss it!

It forms part of @cardiffmusiccity and is open from 12:00 - 20:00 daily until Sunday 3 November. It’s free and you don’t need a ticket - as you can see it’s gorgeous, definitely worth a visit 🌃🇯🇵

One of my favourite annual traditions is complete for 2024 ✅ pumpkin picking at @valepickyourown with the husband’s family! Chucking on our wellies and getting stuck in to find the perfect pumpkin(s) for carving. This year I came home with six… oops 🎃

After we’ve picked our winners it’s a stop off at the café for a coffee and some burgers/loaded fries from @farmerspantryltd. I went for the katsu fries and they were lush, huge portions all round! A quick stop at the fire pits for marshmallow toasting supervision duty 🫡 before paying and heading home. Now the hard work begins… maybe I’ll carve them tomorrow instead 🤣

Autumn will forever be my favourite season 🍁🍂 so @thebushinnhereford’s autumn picnic benches are right up my street! Think cosy hot chocolates, comforting steak pies, apple crumble cake slices… perfection.

We visited for B’s big birthday celebration, and the Bush Inn put up a lovely banner which was cute! We splashed out and booked one of their domes which was lush - there was a Dyson heater and blankets to keep us cosy, a bell for service and a Bluetooth speaker to play our own music 🎵

On to the food! My favourites were the cheesy potato skin and steak pie from the savouries, and the hot chocolate, chocolate pot and biscoff flapjack from the sweets! I wasn’t a fan of the soft drink, I think it was a grape soda but really not sure 🤣 but I get that it’s there for the novelty!

ad 🍩 If you’re in Cardiff, you’ve probably heard of @badboybrownies, or if you’re lucky, tasted their epic brownies over the past few years. BBB are now branching out and adding some of the world’s baddest boys to their menu… in the form of donut burgers!

We tried:
❋ Salted caramel and Nutella milkshakes
❋ The Soprano - Beef patty, burger cheese, slow cooked beef ragu and mozzarella sticks
❋ The Winnfield - Beef patty, Monterey Jack cheese, shredded ham hock, pineapple and teriyaki relish and crispy onions
❋ Lisa tried the Presley - Beef Patty, burger cheese, chipotle bacon, peanut butter, jam and caramelised banana
❋ Loaded tater tots #2 - topped with a slow cooked beef ragu, mozzarella sticks and crispy onions
❋ Loaded tater tots #3 - topped with chicken tender pieces, nacho cheese sauce, BBQ sauce and hot honey
❋ Ey Papi and Nutz brownies

First donut burger for me and I was pleasantly surprised - not too sweet, similar to a nicely toasted brioche bun! So don’t be concerned if you haven’t tried the before - if you really don’t want donuts in your life normal buns are available 👍 We loved the burgers and fillings themselves, J was a big fan of the ham hock and the burgers patties were great. Brownies have always been top tier so no surprises there, Helen and co know what they’re doing!

If you want to get your mitts on these bad boys, head to @ubereats_uk on a Friday and Saturday night and get ordering. It’s 20% off orders over £20 too, and with those sexy shots from @kaitoulax it’s basically impossible not to hit that 😝

ad 🥞 @fluffyfluffyuk soufflé pancakes have arrived in Cardiff! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 if you have Instagram and didn’t know this, you might be living under a rock 🤣

Never tried a souffle pancake before visiting, but these are worth a go - find them on Queen Street opposite the Capitol centre. 10% discount for students too - I recommend the tiramisu pancakes but I need to try the creme brûlée. Some found the tiramisu chocolate/coffee sauce bitter but I really liked it, I don’t have much of a sweet tooth!

G had the Nutella and strawberry - she was a big fan but would’ve liked a slightly more pourable sauce 🍫

Go when you have time and expect to queue a bit, it’s popular! And yes - you have to jiggle them. Its rude not to 😏

Willing the sunshine to stay a little longer with these photos 🌸

These were taken at @gigglingsquid Cardiff Bay recently on a lunch date with the husband - despite the weather not being amazing it was still so bright and colourful! Forever in love with the GS decor. This was my third visit to a Giggling Squid, and my third branch too - Bury St. Edmunds and the Cardiff city centre branches are also gorgeous.

We went for a host of their lunch tapas plates between us, which included:

❋ Thai prawn crackers
❋ Golden money bags
❋ Spring rolls
❋ Lamb Massaman curry
❋ Sleeping honey duck
❋ Crispy slow cooked beef
❋ Salt and pepper squid
❋ Sticky rice

I love trying a whole load of dishes when I go to Thai restaurants, so this is perfect for me. For my last visit, I had the Royal lunch tapas set which was lovely - especially if you’re eating alone/with non-sharers and still want a mix of things! For my first visit, I went for the lamb Massaman curry... and it has featured in every order since so you know I like it 😅

Cardiff is lucky enough to have two Giggling Squids - one down Cardiff Bay and another on The Hayes. Give it a go, I love it there 💗 and if there’s anything on the menu I need to try let me know!
